To See & Do: Hiking

Hole in the Rock

These red sandstone formations at Papago Park are a popular landmark (and prehistoric solstice-tracking tool) with views of an oasis and distant city skyline.

White Tank Regional Park - Waterfall Trail

Saguaros, ancient petroglyph carvings, wide paths and rocky outcroppings along this easy trail provide a slice of Sonoran Desert beauty without tricky footing or much elevation gain. Sighting the namesake waterfall at the end of the trail is rare, but possible if you come after a rain. Park entrance is $6.  Park hours: Sun-Thurs: 6 am - 8 pm; Fri-Sat: 6 am - 10 pm.

Hidden Valley Trail via Mormon Trail

The Hidden Valley Trail via Mormon Trail offers interesting tunnels, dry waterfalls, and a squeeze through Fat Man's Pass.

Pinnacle Peak Trail

The incline to 2,750 feet is gradual and well-maintained, and while you won’t be able to clamber on the true “pinnacle” of granite at the top.

Lookout Mountain

In just under a mile on this short trail, you’ll climb more than 600 feet, but the burst of breathlessness is worth the views up top. The summit looks out south over the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.

Camelback Mountain: Echo Canyon Trail

The summit of Camelback is one of the highest hikes in Phoenix and arguably the best view you can achieve here on two feet. That means this trail stays very busy, but don’t let it deter you from tackling the Phoenix landmark.

Piestewa Peak

A close second in popularity to Camelback Mountain, the summit of this trail is beloved with hikers seeking a challenging trek with a big scenic payoff.

Flatiron via Siphon Draw Trail

Siphon Draw Trail is long so make sure to have plenty of daylight, snacks and water with you. This trail is part of the beautiful Superstition Mountains in the Lost Dutchman State Park. Leaving from the parking area, you will travel up Siphon Draw Trail from the Siphon Draw trailhead. Park fee is $10.00 per vehicle. Trails are open  6 a.m. - 8:00 p.m
